The Fabulous Red Diesel are an eclectic group like no other, and the soulful collective are making waves with their stand-out new album titled ‘The Queensbury House Sessions’.
Unconventional and certainly unorthodox, The Fabulous Red Diesel blend together a smoky jazz style with a sweetly soulful feel and hypnotising melodies.
Creating a sound both distinct and a little strange, The Fabulous Red Diesel are a MUST listen.
The collective are comprised of a husband-wife duo on vocals (Ms Kitty//Kat Lee-Ryan) and drums (Duke Boom//Will Lee-Ryan); a talented transgender trumpeter and double bassist (Miss Bea-Have// Beatrice Gullick), and a grooving guitarist named Rabbi Jaffa Delicious (Simon Dobell).
The hastings-based group have already built an impressive fanbase, supporting and playing alongside The James Taylor Quartet, Skunk Anansie and Jeff Buckley to name a few.
The latest single from The Fabulous Red Diesel, titled ‘Butterfly Mind’, is a spell-binding track with heavenly harmonies, curious beats and anthemic piano chords.
‘Butterfly Mind’ is a flowing tune that declares no matter how your mind may flit and change, true love remains constant. Wordsmith behind the song, Kat explains further:
‘Butterfly Mind’ is just a taste of the full project that is ‘The Queensbury House Sessions’, a troupe of sixteen tracks all recorded in one single take at a disused office building. The vivid lineup of sounds captures The Fabulous Red Diesel’s incredible abilities to perform live, as well as their immense instrumental prowess and harmonious team work.
The entertaining and peculiar group certainly carry with them a light and free feel, creating uplifting soundscapes and motivating music.
Yet vocalist Kat has not been free from tragedy; losing her sister to suicide in 2006, Kat’s grieving took a creative turn. Processing her loss, Kat wrote and developed a stage show called ‘Sparkly Bird’ which has gone on to sell-out theatres as well as educate audiences about mental health.
‘Sparkly Bird’ features songs written by Kat herself and of course performed by The Fabulous Red Diesel, demonstrating the group’s diverse, wide-reaching talents and passion in the creative field.
